OLIO is tackling one of the largest problems facing mankind today - food waste. 1/3 of all food produced globally is thrown away, while 800m people go hungry & the environmental consequences are devastating. In the UK the average family throws away £700 of food p.a. that could've been eaten ($2,275 in the US). OLIO is a fun, easy to use mobile app that connects neighbours with each other so surplus food can be shared not binned. In 15 months we've acquired 150k users & saved over 200k food items

Product - There is no other peer-to-peer food sharing app anywhere in the world that not only connects neighbours but also local businesses with their community. Growth engine - We've scaled so rapidly thanks to our 10,000 & counting volunteers who spread the word about OLIO in their local community Business model - We're building a PAYF donations based model, whereby half of the donation (in exchange for the food/non-food item) goes to OLIO & half to charity, with a slider to customise the %

How are we disrupting the market

Our vision is hundreds of millions of people using OLIO, so that good food is eaten rather than thrown away. When we achieve this the net impact of humanity on the planet will be significantly reduced – not only because our demand for ‘virgin’ food per capita (and all the resources that are used to produce it) will decrease, but also because food will no longer end up in landfill creating methane. 22% of a family's weekly shop is thrown away - if we can even halve this the impact is enormous.
