Creating clean burning high efficiency solid fuel stoves that radically reduce fuel inputs (trees) and pollution outputs (smoke and black carbon).
The Himalayan region comprises more than 10 million households, the vast majority of which use solid fuel (mostly trees) for heating through the winter months. Fuel consumption averages around one mature tree per household per year, which costs time and money to accumulate. The Himalayan Rocket Stove reduces fuel demand by 80%, solving the top-of-mind problem of fuel cost, whilst also addressing other issues such as health and safety of women. There are no competitors and the market is keen!
I spent 3 years developing a prototype that would fit the context of the average Himalayan home, and to date, no one else has a working rocket stove that is effective at the low height required in order to suit the Himalayan context. I have already field tested units in Ladakh, and have a factory ready to produce stoves for the wider Himalayan market.
Current home heating stoves are either low cost, low quality and expensive to run, or high cost, high quality and expensive to run. We are offering a mid cost, high quality, inexpensive to run unit that is utterly unique in the market. Savings on fuel will cover the cost of this unit in less than 2 years, with an expected lifespan in excess of 10.
